True Type fonts and Gimp in MDK 9.2

I am running Mandrake 9.2 and just downloaded a huge quantity of True Type fonts.
I used the font installer included with the distro to install them. The apppear to work with
Open Office, but not with the Gimp. The font shows up in the list, but it says that it isn't available.
How do I get the Gimp to recognize the fonts?

I don't know what fonts gimp uses. There is a program called ttf2pt1 which will convert True Type fones to Type 1 fonts.

If you have a windows box just copy the fonts folder and install it in your Linux box. I needed some for Open office and installed them with it and they showed up in gimp also. Its the x server that controlls fonts so installing them with Open office or the Control center will work.

I do have a windows box and I have already installed the fonts, both from windows and the ones I downloaded. Open Office sees and makes the fonts available just fine. Gimp, however, does not.
