I downloaded & burned the iso to cd. I have tried it on 3 machines, 1 desktop & 2 laptops. The desktop gets to the point of loading X & the screen goes blank. I can switch to a terminal screen & shut it down, but X doesn't want to load. One laptop, it starts up fine but makes terribly loud static noise out the speakers. Mute/volume have no effect. The second laptop, everything seemed fine until I went to shut it down. It got to where the progress bar was almost the whole way across, & then it just locked up. I had to shut it down hard. Any ideas?
I should have read the Errata, here is a fix for the noise.
Continuous loud noise from the sound device
See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #44703. Several users have reported that as soon as the sound driver is loaded on Mandriva Linux 2009, a loud unpleasant noise is played continuously over the system speakers or headphones. This can be fixed by running a mixer, like kmix or alsamixer, and disabling / muting the Analog Loopback channel(s).
I just installed mandriva 2009 on my laptop, and a month or so ago I had tried MandrivaOne. I am having that sound problem as well, but the bug fix does not solve the issue. When I put in a CD, it simulates the sound of the spinning sd, the beep of the cd tray, etc very, very loud. The computer starts making random fuzz and white noise about halfway through booting, and continues to do so until it's shut down. It also makes console beeps when running commands. muting and turning down volume in alsamixer and kmix have no effect. I have also tried muting all options in both of those programs, again with no effect. As I was installing MandrivaOne, the spinning CD sound was heard throughout. I'm starting to worry it'll mess up my speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated :/

I've just experienced the same problem of the loud white noise after installation on a Dell Latitude D630, and muting Analog Loopback channels solved my problem.

Yeah i tried it, the problem was solved. But the noise is still there from when Mandriva boots up till the mixer is loaded. What should i do?
