I have trouble installing amaroK's beta, I chose the RPM for Mandriva 2006.. and tried to install. It was complaining about musicbrainz xD. So I googled that for a mandriva package of that, and got one for 2006. And I installed libmusicbrainz. Yet I still get the same error :S :
I use 2006 as well, and amarok was installed by default when I installed Mandriva. Mandriva is known to be one of the most "user-friendly" distros (in that the command line is less necessary for every day tasks). All you should have to do is go to the K start menu ---> System --> Configuration --> Packaging --> Install Software. Insert your DVD, find amarok on the list, click it, and RPMDrake will reccomend any dependent libraries you may need to also install (these should also be on the DVD).
Pretty much all configuration for the average user can be done through the KDE desktop point and click environment in Mandriva. You don't have to google anything nor download any external packages. Use RPMDrake. The packages should be on the DVD.
If that fails and you have recently just installed Mandriva on your machine, do a reinstall of Mandriva and be sure to check the "multimedia" package when you are installing. Amarok is included there. Good luck.
Hmm I did tick Multimedia in the install and got the current stable release of amaroK . But that doesn't play AAC/MP4 files. Also I get some message on the stable release:
"/Wav was not found" xD. So I found they also released a new package; amaroK beta
