touch pad laptop root


how do i enable the touch pad on my laptop as root.
When i log in as root the touchpad is not enabled.
I think my home directory is full and it wont log my user in.
when i boot off the safemode kernal and start kde4 the touch pad doesnt work how do i turn it on?

Do you have synaptics loaded or in xorg?
