Main Menu --> System --> Configuration --> Hardware --> CD Properties
Then uncheck the box "Run command when DVD (video) is inserted"
Sorry, I don't use KDE or others
Do you already have what's necessary to play commercial DVDs? If not be aware that some distros don't come with the necessary software because of legal issues and will not play these DVDs.
For KDE you need:
start menu -> system -> configuration -> configure your desktop.
in the configure desktop window you want:
components -> file associations -> video.
here you can configure which media player opens for whatever file type you want. So if you wanted mpeg files to open with mplayer, you highlight the file type, then highlight mplayer in the right hand pane of the same window and use the 'move up' button until mplayer is at the top of the list.
