too many entries in lilo.conf

Hi guys. I had some accidented installs of mandrake 9.0, including one with shortage of electricity!, and two failed tries of updating to 9.1. So I ended up with a list with ten entries in my lilo.conf.

2419-16
failsafe
floppy
linux
linux_nonfb
old2_linux
old_2419-16
old_linux
old_linux-nonfb
windows

funny! I'm absolutely wary of touching anything lilo related. Here are my questions:

1- Is it safe to generate a new lilo.conf from the MDK control center's DrakBoot?

2- I use currently only two entries: linux (99.99%) and marginally windows.
So is advisable delete all others? or, indeed is better keep some of them.

I guess I can delete the old... ones, but I don't know what to do with 2419-16, failsafe, floppy, linux_nonfb. Thanks a lot!

You may have old kernels still on your system.
If you want to remove the old kernels, take a look at this thread.

As for some of the entries, you will have to look in the /etc/lilo.conf file (Lilo configuration file) to determine if you need to remove them manually.

here are the ones you can delete without worries (assuming the normal kernal is stable of course):

2419-16
old2_linux
old_2419-16
old_linux
old_linux-nonfb

the others you may want to keep. Failsafe is obvious, and you never know when you might want the floppy boot or the linux-nonfb. By the way, nonfb means no frame buffers, which is a must if you ever have to use old monitors...

oh, forgot to mention that lilo.conf is fairly straight forward and easy to edit properly. And I definately understand your fear of tampering with something in charge of booting your system.
