I installed the fixed package from the Mandriva bug report page and it works now! It solved the problem with the M key and I never had the keyboard repeat problems myself.
I had to install the RPM with --nodeps, as there is no x11-server-common[== 1.4.0.90-15mdv2008.1 available for download. But regardless of breaking its dependencies, it works.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread. The problem started to become a very annoying one.
