the kernel installed by mandriva 06

When I installed mandriva 06 it installed the following kernel:

2.6.12-12mdksmp

I have a celeron 2.6 with 256 of ram. Is it ok that it installed this kernel? Or should I preferably install a different one? If its recomended I isntall and alternative one, could you tell me which one I would be best of with? There are some for less the 1gb ram but they 586, and theres also a standard kernel not optimised for any particular processor.

From my expereince with Mandriva, it never installs smp kernels unless you specifically choose to do so. Anyway if you don't have 2 processors or more, then you don't really need the smp kernel. You can install the i586 generic kernel and your system will work fine.

I let mandriva do what it wanted to. i never specified a kernel to use. Im assuming it chose a smp one for a reason so should i keep on using smp ones?

There has been 2 kernel updates since 2.6.12-12. You should update your system.
