switching from command line to gui on 9.2

Im a complete linux newbie. i recently installed 9.2 on a virgin pc. I selected to install kde and gnome. It starts up and has 3 choices, linux. linux-fbe?, and failsafe. All off them load into the command line-- How do I switch to a gui- like kde or gnome. Also, what is the correct command to turn off the computer cleanly. ( is it "halt") Thanks for the help.
