This is on mandrake 10, I had a wheel mouse w/ a ball, then I switched to a wheel mouse that was optical. Both being ps/2. But I am now unable to to use the wheel on the new mouse?? this mouse worked fine on another machine runnign slackware and I am using the same entry in XF86Config... any ideas???
this may be a stupid question - but have you tried to configure it automatically? Using Mandrake Control Centre (drakconf), my mouse does some very weird things at times, and i have to switch it between my USB port and my PS/2 port, the only way the changeover seems to happen is if i rerun the mouse config tool... worth a shot!
don't know if this applies all the time, but i had the same prob once when switching mice. i used MCC->hardware->mouse config & made the changes that way to detect the new mouse. it all looked good, but the scroll wheel didn't work. simple solution was to............. (gasp!).......... reboot!
ya, i know you shouldn't have to reboot in Linux, but sometimes ya just have to. if all else fails, try rebooting.
