stupid question

how do I change the name of my computer. Right now it just says: "localhost"

As root:

echo "UglyFace" > /proc/sys/kernel/hostname

You can put that in a startup script to fix 'er up nicely. I believe that is compiled into the kernel?

The real (persistent) solution is to edit /etc/sysconfig/network. There's a line "HOSTNAME=" there.
