Storage Media Lost Hot Plugging issue

For some reason that I can't explain I have lost the ability to plug in a usb device and have the storage media window come up and ask me what I want to do. I'm also having a problem with the cd/dvd mounting automatically. I did some normal updates using urpmi --auto-update --auto and that's when I notice the problem.

Any Ideas or help?

thanks.

Distribution: Switched to regualr Ubuntu, because I don't like KDE4, at all. Looks like vista on crack.....

Have you changed your /etc/fstab at all lately ? Also, what distro and version are you using ? urpmi suggests Mandriva, unless some other distro's are using it too....what version and what version were you upgrading too ? More info is always better than less.....

David

P.S. Does the media come up in /mnt or /media ? What desktop are you using too... might just be a setting issue in nautilus or konqueror.

Running Mandriva release 2008.0 free-i586 using KDE on i586
No I have not changed anything in /etc. I was updating not upgrading.

nothing in /mnt or /media and I can only mount the cd/dvd manually. I have basically lost the ability for external peripherals to load automatically. I did go into Control Center to check storage media and everything looks ok. Also I have tried to add the "storage media applet" to the panel but nothing shows up when I do. I'm wondering if I lost the program altogether? Not sure what command I can use in terminal to show an error or what's up.

Thanks for responding.

Figured it out

With further research and trying to find a way to solve this with the command line I found a solution.

# chkconfig messagebus reset
# chkconfig haldaemon reset

And then a reboot solved my problem.
