Hi Have installed mandriva linux relese 20007.0(Official) for i586
Kernel 2.6.17.5 mdv on an i686/tty1
Start system from A drive flopy
need Login and password
tried many but none work
Can type root and screen flashes and no mouse pointer moves
Cannot open device /dev/mouse
Xinit connection to X server lost
So after much study still unable to have 2007 up and runing
tried Rescue on Cd no improvement
any help

Are you dual-booting with Mepis? Is this why you need to boot with floppy? What kind of install? Did you pick packages manually or go for the bundle? Which bundle?

After having downloaded four CDs for Mandriva 2007.586.iso and Manriva One -2007-free
Have decided not waste any more computer time with Mandriva
Mandrake 10 was a stable version
Mepis on a disk presents no problem to my system
Video works just fine but Mandriva has problem with Video flasing on and off

Sorry you are giving up on Mandriva.

2007 is stable for me, running it on 3 boxes and no problems with os.

Rock solid.
