when you say "it still isn't working", what are you referring to? the nvidia install? if so, what errors are you getting or how isn't it working? are you referring of not being able to get to a GUI again? if so, what is occurring? once again, please post your complete XF86Config-4. (not the one marked -old)
just a note, when using the nvidia install instructions, you must follow the procedure to a tee. syntax, spacing, CApS are important. one typo can make it fail. do you have exact matching kernel & kernel sources? that is the main mistake most people make. they either just have the kernel installed, but not the sources, or they have sources that don't match the kernel. to check, in a terminal as root type uname -a to get your current kernel version. then as root type urpmf kernel-source to see which kernel source is installed (if any). if it shows a kernel source installed, it must match the kernel version EXACTLY for the nvidia drivers to work. IE: if you have kernel-2.6.3-7 you must also have kernel-source-2.6.3-7. if it shows no kernel source installed, in terminal as root type urpmi kernel-source & choose to install the EXACT source to match your kernel, then try the nvidia install. if it shows a kernel-source different from your kernel, type urpme kernel-source-(exact version number) to remove it, then do urpmi kernel-source to install the correct one.
Sorry, I've been really busy working for the past week.
My XF86Config-4 file contains the following data:
Absolutely nothing.
On the other hand, the XF86Config-4.ol file contains the following:
# File generated by XFdrake.
# **********************************************************************
# Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of
# this file.
# **********************************************************************
Section "Files"
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
FontPath "unix/:-1"
EndSection
Section "ServerFlags"
#DontZap # disable <Crtl><Alt><BS> (server abort)
AllowMouseOpenFail # allows the server to start up even if the mouse doesn't work
#DontZoom # disable <Crtl><Alt><KP_+>/<KP_-> (resolution switching)
EndSection
Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so"
EndSection
I also checked the Kernel version (2.6.3-7mdk) and that matches the drivers I downloaded.
I personally think that I need to swap the 2 variants of the XF86Config-4, so the standard version contain all of the data that the .old version contained.
