Unhappy Speedtouch Problems

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting my Alcatel USB Speedtouch modem working.

I am using the default setup for Mandrake 10.0 Community.

I have tried both the 2.4.x and the 2.6.x based kernels and cannot get it working.

I have received an error in 2.6.x which is a known problem with the USBFS and is being worked on already.

However, i have tried all known methods of getting it working in 2.4.x (ie sourceforge project and the basic follow the instructions in drakconnect).

It gets to a stage where it is downloading the microcode to the unit (orange light solid) - followed by green flashing lights (trying to connect) but then it goes solid and a few seconds later the computer says 'You don't seem to be connected to the internet - Please reconfigure'.

Thanks for you help in advance.

post your /etc/ppp/peers/adsl file. (This is what causes me problems when speedtouch stops working).

You shouldn't need to recompile your kernel, mandrake is already configured to run with alcatel.

I think possilby Mandrake might br installing the wrong version of the firmware (since apparently the firmware of the modem changed, possibly with the silver coloured speedtouch 330 - a link was posted in these forums if I remember correctly).

The default firmware is about 5xx kb while the firmware I use (saved from the days I had Windows on my computer) is about 7xx kb. Try using the firmware you used for Mandrake 9.2 - it works for me, although I still get the 'could not connect to the internet' type message even when the modem is still establishing a connection (ppp tab pops up a few seconds later usually).
