sound troubles
 

I got my alsa drivers working with my soundcard. Thought I had it all figured out. I restart to go back onto windows for something:rolleyes: then when I went back onto linux my sound would not work until I restart Alsa. Im guessing something needs to be switched around in the start-up order.

Im kind of a linux newbie here. Anybody have any ideas?

Load up the Mandriva Control Centre, click on the System tab on the left hand side and then click on the services button (big grey cog).

Check that the ALSA service is set to run on boot or startup.

Also, check to make sure that your sound is not getting muted at startup as well. I've had that trouble lots of times. One way to check is to run Kmix, and check the volume of Master. If it is set at 0, simply move it up to where you want it, then go to Konsole, type su, then the root password, then type alsactl store.

alsa definitely starts on boot. I see it as one of the things that starts during boot and gives me the [ok]

I also tried ''alsactl store''...no help. still need to ''/etc/initd.d/alsa restart'' to get the sound to work.

Yes, Alsa will almost always start on boot with no troubles. Was asking if the the volume was muted though. again, check in Kmix and see what the Master Volume is at.

okay I tried to run kmix and this is the error I get.

ERROR: Alsa mixer cannot be found.
Please check that the soundcard is installed and the
soundcard driver is loaded.

to me...it looks like Alsa is starting, but for some reason nothing can see the drivers and soundcard.
XMMS gives me a similar error about no sound card.
