Sound problems Mandriva 2006 Ali5xxx(ALSA) On old toshiba laptop
Hello every body, This is my first post!!! Very Happy
ok, I am having problems with my Laptop Toshiba Satellite 1800-S203 which has an ALi5xxx sound chip. After the sound service is initiated an strange sound sounds in the background like some kind of interference. I have normal sound cause I hear the welcome sound at start up, but the annoying interference sound persist. I did not have this problems with MD2005LE. Can some body help me Smile Thank you in advance |
That's weird. Any errors in /var/log/messages? or /var/log/boot.log? Do you know if the system has configured the correct chipset for you, maybe it didn't recognize it?
It looks like 2006 runs alsa 1.0.9, there have been a few fixes for ali5 modules (turning off DRA since it's not supported, etc..), as well as lots of fixes in non-chipset-specific areas, so you could try to update it (urpmi --keep FILENAME should work): http://www.alsa-project.org/ |
Ok, I will try. Thank you.

It didnt work.
I had upgraded from 1.09b to 1.10 rc2 with no good results. I did a downgrade as well to 1.08 version, with the same effect. I think is the alsa drivers, but maybe it is the laptop mode service which is executed right after alsa when booting up. What do you guys think? |
Sorry, I've got no clue. :(
