Hi there! Many thanks for your help.

First, I disabled pulse audio. Afterwards, I ran the following commands:

service alsa force-stop
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=intel-mac-v5
reset_sound

Sound worked fine. Note, I needed to disable pulse audio from MCC. Thank you so much.

Hello,

I'm having the same problem - no sound in Mandriva 2010 on the latest macbook pro. However, after following all the instructions in this thread, there is still no sound.

I disabled pulse audio; this is what I see when doing commands mentioned by alam:

Code:
[root@localhost ~]# service alsa force-stop
Doing alsactl to store mixer settings... [ OK ]
but first, terminating (SIGTERM) pid 3685... [ OK ]
[root@localhost ~]# modprobe snd-hda-intel model=intel-mac-v5
WARNING: Module snd_mixer_oss already in kernel.
[root@localhost ~]# reset_sound
[root@localhost ~]#
Could this WARNING be my problem, or is it normal?

Regards

Alexander

Hi ap37, please run the script....
Quote:
If you have no joy, you might try the alsa-info.sh script.

You can get it from the website...

www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh

When you run it, type --help, to see the options available.

sh alsa-info.sh --help

I don't know how to debug the entire output, but if you paste it here we may find something.

Also, check the alsa wiki...

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Main_Page
see how you go.

Regards Glenn

Hi ap37,

I assume the warning may cause a problem. I suggest,

1. disable pluse from MCC->hardware->sound,

2. remove snd_mixer_oss from Kernel e.g. comment out line that loads snd_mixer_oss in /etc/modeprobe.d/snd-oss

3. reboot

4. enable pluse from MCC

5. repeat : service alsa force-stop
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=intel-mac-v5
reset_sound

sound should work now. After a full update of mandriva 2010, I lost sound again. Although, step 5 above should be sufficient, I am not sure of others steps - but it worked.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I commented out the only line in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-oss; rebooted & re-enabled Pulse and then ran these three commands... Still no sound :-(

Was there anything else you did that might have done it? I imagine that if it works on your mbp, it should do it on mine as well...

Regards,

Alexander

Hi, my mandriva is x86_64 and yours is i686. You could see my alsa-info.sh scripts output here:

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=c3...db74b4f40638d7

I also have sound problem with latest kernel and I downgraded to:

Linux wavelet 2.6.31.5-desktop-1mnb #1 SMP Fri Oct 23 00:05:22 EDT 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz GNU/Linux

Hope this helps you to debug the issue.

Red face pcspkr

the pcspkr module is in the list have you tried to blacklist it....

when you type...

lsmod

do you see pcspkr ?

If so, you may blacklist that module (pcspkr), allowing others to take control.

look for (with mandriva) /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-compat or /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-mdv

see that document to see how to black list a module.

Hi all,

In the PulseAudio Volume Control, I just noticed that the built-in microphone of the mbp is working just fine.
Now, I just can't figure out how to get the other half of the soundcard working :s
