Sound not working on web browsers in KDE (please help!)

Today sound stopped working on my browsers. I don't know what is wrong. If I go to any site involving sound, nothing works. However, the sound works fine in other kde applications such as amarok. And sound works fine in browsers under GNOME. But in all my browsers under KDE (Firefox, Konqueror), nothing works. I even uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, but that didn't help. I have java and flash loaded and enabled on all my browsers. I haven't changed anything except the visual theme since the last time they worked. Does anyone have any ideas for what could be wrong? How might I fix this? I can't afford to do a full reinstall of the system with my work now.
