To log in as root, you can bring up the terminal screen, then left click and hold on the bottom left hand side of the window, then bring up new root screen, it will then ask you for your password, if you set one when you installed mandrake. Once you have done this, type: dmesg and it will scroll through a list of things that started when your computer booted. Look for sound setup error messages. I had a hell of a time with my sound setup, but i am using a laptop with an pain in the butt crystal sound chip

sound help

It looks as though it is a "plug and pray" sound card. I can only suggest logging in as root, and running sndconfig and seeing if you can hear the test sounds, if not, look in the multimedia menu, then sound, then kmix and see if your volume levels are low

Don't sure... but you have sound with Yamaha module ( driver ) ?

If so you probably have to change your modules to match the above one.

Alsa module is : snd-ymfpci

Have a look at Alsa site for this module and how to install it.

Paste for our information output of module.conf file

/etc/modules.conf ( can be different with MDK 10 )
