Sound Card, USB Mouse, Cable - Problems. M 10.1

X86 / Mandrakelinux 10.1 (Official) / Installation
When I install M 10.1 on a second Hard Disk, the install interface is never graphical as shown in the web pages. Instead, I have a text based screen. Never knew the reason for it.
Any ideas?
After install, my screen resolution was wrong, which I managed to set right after many 'tab' key strokes as my USB mouse was not recognized. neither was my Cable Connection. I use RoadRunner High Speed connection.
Lastly, the sound card on my e-machines t-1840 was also not recognized.
Earlier, I had Ubuntu - this worked very well on all the issues. Don't ask me why I switched to M 10.1... Oh, I know KDE! It's one of those decisons in life that you make just because...
Since, I boot into WinXP to log onto the net and post this, I would appreciate any help from the folks out there...
I'm a Linux novice, with no programming experience. Hence when you ask me to post more information, please let me know where I should be looking...

TIA

1. Graphics
Most distros with graphical installs have a fallback to text install when the correct graphics driver/mode can't be determined.
Perhaps you could find the correct settings from Ubuntu?
Login as user,
su to root
and examine this file (under both distros) to determine the differences:
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
- particularly look for a "Driver" line in a "Device" section

2. Mouse
The mouse most likely isn't working because you haven't got X working yet.

3. RoadRunner
No such thing in my country, perhaps a local can help you ... try starting a separate thread (and give more detail).
