sombody knows how to configure my kernel for my new machine ?


hello,

I bought a new PC:

P4 3.0GHz Hyperthreading (prescott)
1Gb RAM Memory
160 GB SATA HD
40 GB HD (IDE) --> Linux system
...

and I want configure my kernel (linux ) to use the hyperthreading option in linux, but I don't know how to do it ( i mean where to start ) ?

now i use this kernel:

Linux FireDragon 2.6.3-7mdk-i686-up-4GB #1 Wed Mar 17 15:17:23 CET 2004 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux

First install the kernel source.
Then open a console and log in as root.
Go to
Code:
	/usr/src/linux
Code:
 		$ make mrproper
		$ make clean
		$ make xconfig
Select and deselect as you please but be carefull!
When this is finished you should start compiling and installing your new kernel.

Code:
		$ make 
		$ make bzImage
		$ make modules
		$ make modules_install
		$ make install
Voila, your finished. All you need to do now is reboot and select your new kernel from lilo.

hello,

Thanks, but I want to use the old configuration with th new parameters for HyperThrreading ... how can I do it ?
