So frustrated!!!

Hi all yet again

Ok if everyone has been reading my posts, you might be aware that i am having trouble installing mandrake.

I finally created the 3 cd,s in order for a 9.1 installation. Everything seemed to be ok, when it got to the summary page it even recognised by ati radeon card, i did a test to see if any graphics would appear on my screen and it did. So it finished doing what it had to do and then came the test rebooting.!!!!

All i get is a blank screen...it would stay that way forever if i let it.

I am so frustrated, please please can anyone help me. I dont think i am doing anything wrong, i have been at this for over a week.

I know it is installed i just dont know how to get at it so i can try and fix it ...well with you help that is.

Thanks

Sue

You did make a boot floppy didn't you? Excellent - use it to try and boot your installation. If you didn't, try other booting options. As you hit the lilo screen, try non-fb first, then if no dice, try failsafe. That should leave you logged in as root in a shell. Try the command startx at that point and see what happens. If you get errors about no screens found, try the command XFdrake and put in the details about your hardware again.

Good luck.

In an earlier post you said the onboard graphics card was disabled in XP. Is it disabled in the BIOS? It wouldn't matter to the Mdk installer that the onboard is disabled in XP, Mdk might be trying to configure both cards

Have a look in the BIOS if there's an option to disable

Hi

Ok... i went into text mode using failsafe and tried startx...nothing just a blank screen. So i rebooted and did XFdrake this is what appears on the screen.

graphic card: ATI RAdeon
Monitor: Flat panel 1024x768
Resolution 1024x768 16bpp
Test
Options

i left everrything as it was and then rebooted...all i get is a black screen.

Thanks

hi again

Within XFdrake i palyed around with some of the settings...still nothing.

I tried to change the graphics card and the onboard one is displayed.... but i always choose to configure the ati radeon. I searched the bios and cannot find a way to disable the onbaord graphics card from there.

Sorry to be a pain...but i really want to get it up and working so hopefully i can get rid of windows forever.

Ta Sue

Do you have details on your motherboard and onboard graphics? Manufacturer and model would help

Iwould also recommend posting your question at this forum along with a link to your previous posts for background info

Your monitor

You don't connect your monitor via a DVI cable do you?? The generic drivers that come with with the Mandrake 9.1 distro don't support dvi output so if you're connected in this way all u will get is a black screen when X starts up. If this is the case connect using the analog cable from your graphics card - you can "upgrade" to DVI later using the manufacturers own drivers but thats another story...
