Slow Name Resolving with 10.1

Hello,

I've read as many threads as possible about this little issue and I can not seem to get it working right.

I have the slow name resolving issuing when using whatever web-browser I try.

I have done the ipv6 fixes for the modprobe.conf file and i've told the firewire port not to start at boot up. Also did the about:config in Firefox to change the ipv6setting.

I've removed and added the eth1 dev via the MCC (which i miss the old way mandrake did their interface, like fedora's)

Anyway, My winxp machine is on the same switch and has no problems.

When I do nslookup it seems to find them at a decent speed. I am not sure what else to try though. 10-30secs for name resolving with the web browsers is a bit slow :)

Anything else I can try?

I've also noticed that when I boot the linux machine when it finds the eth1 and eth0, eth1 takes a good minute+ to pass whereas the eth0 fails. eth1 is the one I use to connect to the internet with (the one I am currenly using) eth0 is not currently connected anywhere. My net connection is at work which is through a network connection (adsl)

Thank you

SharkBait

Check your routing and make sure that there is no attempt to route packets via the interface you are not using.

I have similar problems. I have a firewall/router between the computer and the adslmodem. Mandrake gets the firewalls ip as a DNS server and that is very slow, so I manually changes the DNS server in Mandrake every time I reboot the machine. Not the perfect solution as I dualboot with XP in order to be able to work from home.
So after my ramblings my advise is to check your dns server ip.

If you don't wish to retype the IP into /etc/resolv.conf add it to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethx

You can add an entry for your DNS even if your system obtains it's IP via DHCP. The entry gets automatically added to /etc/resolv.conf when the interface is brought up.

That sounds like a must try!
Thanks.
