Skype install

Have finally managed (i think) to install Skype onto my computer but i can't find it mentioned anywhere in the menu? So i opened a terminal/konsole and typed: rpm -q skype and was rewarded with: skype-1.4.0.99-mdv. Could someone tell this old n00b what i've got to do next so that i can start using the Skype program please.

There should be an entry in your menu under "Internet". If there isn't one, just click on Run in the menu and enter skype.

You can create a menu entry, using the menu editor; or a desktop link, by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Create New / link to application"

Did you type Skype or skype? If the former, try skype (all lower case).

Sorry. Everything just worked for me "out of the box". If no-one else here is able to help, you may get some ideas by looking through the Skype Linux forum:

http://www.skype.com/share/forums/

Sound problems seem to be quite common. You may find someone who has had a similar problem and solved it.

Thanks for the link Jim but i have been to the Skype forum on a number of ocassions but it's members seem to be reluctant in helping other less knowledgable members. I am using the latest version of Sype: Skype-1.4.0.99mdv but still no luck! Shall just have to rely on the printed word until some good and knowledgable samaritan shows up and shows me how to get the sound up and running. Cya

can only advise you call skype echo123
to test hearing and recording
Otherwise check microphone is on in kmix
you can try alscaconf as well to try various settings.
Not knowing you card make it hard.
The settings in skype (default) "should" be ok
