Shutdown on Mandrake 10.1 Unmounting Stalls

ok when i go to shutdown it stalls right at the point where it says

:Unmounting Filesystems..... |\-/| and just continues.... but will never shutdown. what the hell. i always have to restart by rebooting it manually and check the interigity of the disks

that did not help at all he wants to know why it wont turn off. myne just wont unmount the filesystem....
