Shell in emacs

Hi there, i opened a second buffer in emacs and run shell command in there. But not like in the Terminal, i couldn't use the UP key to get the previous command, it instead just goes up one line and that's not what i want.
Is there anyway to get the previous command like pressing UP key in Terminal ?

And in the editing window, how to start highlight a sentence without having to click the mouse ? In other editor, i just simply hold Shift and use LEFT or RIGHT to extend the highlighting area, but it doesn't work in Emacs.

Thanks a lot.

M-p and M-n. Also C-up and C-down should work.

You can drop marker with C-space. Other end of the marked area is the location of your cursor.
If you want to actually hilight the marked area, you can enable the transient-mark-mode. It somewhat modifies the behaviour of the buffer, though.

See "info emacs" ->"Important Text-Changing Commands" -> "Mark"
for philosophy behind the system and details.

hi there,

just to complement the information...
you can also try
Code:
eshell
ansi-term
they work better with the features that you are trying...
