share read and write permission to users


i am using mandrake distro.i am root user. i have to give read and write permissions of floppy
and cdrom devices to users in GUI mode.where i have to change the permissions.

usermod -G cdrom,floppy username

sir it is not giving the permission to user i specified.
should i restart the computer?

user has to relogin -- read the man pages - they go into more detail and question would have been answered
