Okay here is the problem I am trying to follow some online guides and use a little common sense but the later seems to be deserting me at the moment.

I am faced with two directories:

/usr/lib/apache/ - this one contains a bunch of modules,
/usr/lib/apache2/ - this one contains a bunch of modules to.

I am trying to set up a linux box with apache PHP & MySql to allow me to learn a little webdesigning and I have found a generic sorta set up guide.

I have to make sure various modules are loaded into the server to allow PHP an MYSQL to function just not sure which directories I should be using and where I should be linking to ?

Commonsense says the apache2 directory however am concerned there is an apache directory ?

any help appreciated

Additionally my guide says I must alter the httpd.conf file to make changes, I have a httpd.conf a httpd2.conf and a commonhttpd.conf just to add to my confusion..

Okay extensive reading and tweaking and rewriting etc has gotten me to a point where the root directory will now accept php documents and such like. I am still short a few things I am trying to do though:

currently I am putting anything I want to see in var/www/html/ to be able to see it - this means I am pretty much writing everything as root to get files there. Is there a way or a link to a tutorial on how I can set things up so my user logon has access to a directory I can play with without going through root all the time.?

I believe
/usr/lib/apache
is for Apache 1.3 and
/usr/lib/apache2/
is for Apache 2.0
