screen problem
 

I just downloaded the mandriva 2006 DVD from 1 of the mirrors and bunt it onto a DVD.
I was happy that the installation went smoothely. when the installation completed, there was a problem in the monitor. It showed colours like a rainbow. I thought something went wrong during install, so I reinstalled everything carefully, but the problem still persists.

Try opening your xorg.conf file, look through for your monitor refresh settings and use lower ones - preferably the ones suggested by the manufacturer.

i had all that done but NO LUCK

You could try reconfiguring X using xfdrake or xorgconfig.

You need to start a terminal session e.g. Konsole or gnome-terminal, login as root and do "init 3". You will be dropped to the command line, so login as root and enter the commands "xfdrake or xorgconfig. These tools are menu drivem so hopefully you will be able to use them without any problems.
