I have a Samsung RV508 laptop with Mandriva 2010 spring. I have an inbuilt webcam , though the xscan program recognize the webcam as the scanner device. I attached Canon LiDE100 scanner via USB and configured. But still ,when I fire the xscan program, the output is coming from webcam, not from the scanner??
I would connect the scanner, give it any modules it needs, disconnect the webcam, remiove the software, remove the config file and install the software again. That way, the install script will (hopefully) see scanner and not webcam.
is the scanner installed id look in config computer and let mandriva install it for you look in hardware and see what mandriva calls the scanner search the package manager for its driver .I have xsane here it at start up it shows all available devices webcams capture card inputs and scanners I dont think its conflicting just you need to install the driver for the scanner

mine is canon Lide100 scanner and it has no driver in mandriva repository.. so I configured it manually on my mandriva desktop.. but wen it come to my laptop, it has an inbuilt webcam and xscanimage automatically detect my webcam as the scanner. I tried to configure my scanner manually and its showed on in the command line.. but still i fire xscanimage or using gimp, my webcam is showing up as scanner..
i dnt know how to change the default scanner setup. and I dnt wanna disable my webcam too..
thanx but does this will disable my webcam forever?? like shall I get any issues with webcam later??
No. At worst, your webcam will be out oif system until the next boot. morprobe the module and it will probably say
"Hey, somebody has plugged in a webcam" I'll set it up!"
