HELP!! SBlive 5.1 soundcard not functioning (using Mandrake 9.2)

As you prolly realised, my SBlive 5.1 soundcard aint giving me any sound.
Its a clean, fresh install of the new Mandrake 9.2, only thing being tempered with is when i tinkered with Mandrake to get my Radeon 9700 to work, it included downloading and installing a driver for Xfree86 4.3.0 and creating a tailored kernel modul for Radeon.
Heres what the mcc says about my soundcard:

Producent: ‎Creative Labs

Alternative drivprogrammer: ‎audigy:emu10k1

Bus: ‎PCI

Bus-identifikation: ‎1102:6:1102:1003

Plads på bussen: ‎2:0:0

Beskrivelse: ‎[SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X

Modul: ‎snd-emu10k1

Medieklasse: ‎MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO

Im sorry that this is in danish, but im sure you will reconize it anyway.

Any solutions? anybody ran into this kind of prob before?
I dont remember the exact specs of my whole pc, other then its from Dell, but i can rethrive them if theyr really needed.

Cheers
-NBN-
P.S writting this at late, after fixing the Radeon card, will go to bed now and hope for lots of solutions to pop in till tomorrow
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the sound is muted. It will comeup as muted from a fresh install. So open KMix and unmute it. Then you should be ok.

I've been working on this also, and have found that the SB 5.1 Live Value card provided in the Dimension 4600s is a dell custom model which is not suppported by SB directly. It's also NOT supported by the emu10k1 module. Apparently 4Front has developed a driver which will work for the board, but I haven't been able to get it to install. Check www.opensound.com for the driver. Apparently it's a free download, but after 30 days you have to buy it.

The card cited in many articles is the CT0200, but my card is an SB0200 so I'm still not 100% sure on this issue.

Did you compile a complete new kernel for the modules??

If you did I bet I know what happened, it happened to me when I compiled a kernel for this system I am typing this on. The kernel source won't have the SB Live set up as availible directly in the kernel or as a module if it isn't from Mandrake. I could be mistaken about current kernel source from Mandrake, but their older sources from previous editions used to have pretty much all the sound cards set as modules to allow for easy compatability. If you go back and compile another kernel setting SB Live as a module and modprobe should bring it up on kernel boot. Don't quote me on that ...lol.

I haven't had a chance to recompile the kerenl again been too busy with work, so I have been dealing with the enterprise kernel Mandrake packages with their distros. This due to the system having 1GB of ram and my wanting to use it all. If Ihad chose module for sb live I bet it would have been fine. I am actually betting it would.

Hope this helps.

Actually, the sounds didnt work before nither after my kernel module compiling
I heard from several reliable source that the Dell SoundBlaster LIVE! 5.1 simply doesnt got any drivers for it yet, since this perticular soundcard only comes with Dell and is a modification of the original LIVE! 5.1 card.

So until someones bothers to modify the SB Live! 5.1 drivers to work with the Dell to i will be without sound.

For cheap money buy a new sound card

You can buy a pretty nice 5.1 soundcard for around 50 bucks american. The SB Live 5.1 I bought off of a pc builder i know, I got for 35 dollars new. His place is one of those mom and pop type shops. Either that type of place or chain store you can find a good, cheap card that when you plug it in mandrake should be able to bring it up. In theory mind you on it coming right up

NBN,
I've got a Dell 4600 with the affected SB Live card. I just pulled the card out and used the onboard sound. I'm "guessing" that most of the 4600 have the onboard sound, but dell tried to hide it by putting a cap over the connectors.

Look below your mouse and keyboard PS/2 slots, if there's a black cap, pull it off and voila onboard sound. Enable the onboard sound in the BIOS and as long as your SB Live card is out, the install process for Mandrake will find and work with the onboard sound.

I've never recompiled a kernel so dunno if it'd work to get the sound working.

I'll try the soundcard pulling out thing.

I cant buy a "cheap" soundcard for 50 bucks, by the simply reason that im in a short budged:

499 kr. in reserver for Doom3

49 kr. for whatever i want

7.5 kr. counts for 1 buck.

I know this may sound weird but I've had the same problem. No sound out of Sb live card. I moved my Logitec Optical mouse from usb to the psi with an adapter and my sound came back. Go figure.
