I have a sansa m250 mp3 player. I was wondering if it is supported in Linux, hopefully Mandriva. I know it has some sort of Microsoft software(mtp or something similiar) to transfer files and playlist to the player. I have heard it will transfer data files like a thumb drive but I have heard the mp3 functions do not work.
Has anyone heard anything on this or got it to work? I do not want to give up my mp3 player.
thanks for the reply. I don't have Mandriva loaded at the moment. If I can get support for my mp3 player then I would be tempted to install it again. I wonder if I can get a live cd and see if it works with it before I load Mandriva again...
What application did you use? Did you use Konqueror to transfer the files? Amorik (? Spelling) is suppossed to work with some mp3 players. I want to be able to create playlists so I can organize my music. I might go ahead and install anyway, or at least dual boot till I'm sure.
I think my mp3 player is the only thing left that's holding me up.
I had my wireless working.
I got my DVD's playing
I had file and print sharing working ok.
I had wine working a little.
So, mp3 support is the last thing. Thanks for the help
Hmmm,
Converted over to Mandriva 2006. Still can't find any support for the Sansa mp3 player. I can transfer files to it but I cannot make a playlist to organize my music. I tried Amorik but it just supports IPOD. I am trying to download some other programs that say they have generic support for mp3 players but no luck yet.
I can't find anyone who has gotten mp3 and playlists to transfer to my sansa m250 yet.
Any ideas
If it is an MTP device, take a look at libmtp (libmtp.sourceforge.net). Install that, and then is a frontend you can use mtpdude (which I haven't managed to compile yet) or gnomad2 (which currently doesn't support video and data transfer,) but audio works great with my Zen Vision M (another MTP device). libmtp and mtpdude are both very beta at the moment, but they seem to work pretty well.
I'd also like to buy this MP3 player, does managing your music work now for you?
And what was actually the problem? When you mount the device and copy audio files to it, the player can't use them? Or was it just a problem with playlists?
It will copy music to the player as files. But you can't make playlists. The only programs I can get to work with it are windows media player and real player.
That's the only reason I'm still running Windows. I have 2 gig on the player and about a thousand songs on the player. So, having playlist to organize my songs are a must. I wish their was a decent program that came with the player instead of using windows media player and real player.
Windows media player had been a real pain. But, I love my mp3 player. I take it everywhere. The m250 sandisk is a great player.
I just hoping Linux will find a program that will manage the music better...
