Safe on 9.2? - Mitsumi CR-48X9TE cdrom drive

Hello.
I recently replaced Red Hat 8 with Mandrake 9.2 on my Linux partition (HP Pavillion 751n, Pentium 4 processor). Shortly thereafter, I read in this forum the warning post about Mandrake 9.2 frying cdrom drives. Is the drive in the subject line OK under Mandrake 9.2? There are a number of posts on other sites about the Mitsumi drives as they relate to Mandrake and Mandrake newbs, no less. Unfortunately, they're all in Russian. Any help, even if it's just pointing out the deep level of my ignorance or the folly of my paranoia, would be appreciated.

The CR-48X9TE is a CD-RW, isn't it? Why, because I installed 9.2 on one box with one and I haven't had any problems. And if you haven't been having any problems with yours, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

BTW, I believe that the issue with the "frying" of the LGs applies only to CD-ROMs, and not CD-RWs.

Yes, cdr/w drives are not effected. Go to www.linux-mandrake.com for a list of the affected drives. I guess what happened, is the the LG company reused a command that is used only for cdr/w drives, as a command for loading new firmware. This was against the standard specifications. Someone should be spanked!

Yes, I was talking about a CD-RW. Thanks again for the reassurance. You guys and this site are a great resource.
