I have been using urpmi with wild abandon the last few weeks and am now starting to run into problems. I seem to have run out of room on my / partition!

I have a partition at /var/www which is hardly using any space so I guess I could resize my partitions...although this sounds risky so I don't think I will do that.

What I was thinking was removing some software. As I have been using rpms, I figure I can just start rpm -e programs that I don't use. But what I am wondering is, will this free up room? Will removing an rpm, either through rpm -e or through the mandrake gui for removing software, actually delete all the files associated and give me some more room?

I just don't want to do this is it won't make much of a difference.

You have been probably been using your system for loading everything especially the root directory.

You should copy to the home directory all files documents etc the system drive / should only be used
for the operating systems and applications. Remove all the .gz and .bz2 packages to your home directory, and
empty your waste bin.

If this doesn't free up enought space in the / drive. Then you will have to free the space the hard way.

No, I only use my / partition for installing programs. Any files and stuff I work with is in my /home partition.

By the hard way, do you mean uninstalling software? That was what I wanted to know. Will removing rpm packages getting rid of all the files and free up space?
