Requirements
I remember back when I was seven I had a computer in my room with windows 98 and it surrpased all requirements by a thousand lightyears. Now I'm running a computer so slow 8068 could have good chance of beating it. Linux distros Usualy only give the archetexure needed for it. What are Mandriva's System Requrements? Will it run on a computer with only 256MB of RAM? Does it rely on Internet to get new software like Kubuntu? Or does it go back to the day of installers? Im tight on DVDs right now so only want to test it if it'll work. Deets:
Dell Dimention 4550
256 (technically 255 one Meg revered for bios settings)
No Internet whatsoever data downloaded on separate computer and brought via USB
No idea what GH CPU is it's still the one that came with it
One smelly dog laying on my feet
Want to keep xp on my comp
Who wants to help me? please?
:=(
You say you have no internet, yet, you are posting here. iphone right?
Can you not tether it to your computer?
There are plenty of distros that will work fine with 256 Mb RAM without any tweaking
(in fact almost any distro will work, but may require some effort on your part). The
web is simply filled with information on this topic.

It's an iPod, and I really cant (and don't want to) jailbreak my iPod. I can download stuff from another comp (my parents') and move it to where I have all the stuff. They say I can't have Internet because there worried I'm gonna watch porn or whatever and I'm like if I was I would just do it on my iPod and there like well I'm gona block the Internet now and then he asks me in an hour how to get it working again... The good news is they bought a MacBook pro and I'm getting the Dell dimension 9100! Im gonna download all the distros I want! Back on topic: So is mandriva one of the ones that will work with 256 megs? What's your distro recommendation for my needs? How many gold bricks will you give me? Why does my bios literally take ten minuts to finish? Why IS IT SO FREACKN HARD TO MAKE THIS STUPID FUGE RECIPE... That's four times it's been turned to a rocky mush...
