repair 10.1 ???

Is there a way to repair an installation?
Remove files that are not used.
I'm having problems installing and removing software.
'rpm -i xawtv' says xawtv is already installed.
'locate xawtv' finds several .xawtv files but no executable such as /usr/bin/xawtv.
Entering 'xawtv' as user or root does nothing.

'urpmi' doesn't find anything anymore.
I changed download sources from 'ttu' to 'psu' and get the same message every time.
'rpm -e urpmi' tells me it is needed by several other files.

Will a reinstall work to solve this?

Use drakconf or System-->Configuration-->Packaging-->Remove Software this is the safe way to remove software and will also take care of dependencies.
