repackaging the mandrake 9.2 isos
 

I have what may seem like a weird question but I'll ask anyways.

I've read about a lot of people having problems with mandrake 9.2 and I know that mandrake didnt update their isos (other than the kernel update) when they released them publicly.

So what I'm getting at here...is there a way for me to download the ISO's and somehow stick the updated rpms into it then burn them to cd. I know there has been many updates for 9.2 and i want to wipe a redhat9 box i have and put mandrake 9.2 on it. But i want to avoid as many problems as possible.

If someone has the solution, as much detail as you can provide would be great.

You can basically accomplish the same thing by installing 9.2, and before you do anything else setup the Mandrake updates in MCC, and download/install as many as you want. Of course if you want to install on other machines, having updated iso's would be better, otherwise you'd have to go through all that every time. I think I read something about trying to add updates would put each cd over the 700mb limit, so it's not as simple as it might seem. I guess if there is a way to open an iso and add/remove rpms before you burned them it might work, if one removed a few unwanted 3rd party app rpms (not any core Mandrake stuff)to free up space, and then replaced old buggy rpms with the updated versions Mandrake just issued. The objective would be to keep the total size of each cd under 700mb.I would think this could get very complicated, and you have to ask yourself if it's worth the trouble, if it's only for one machine.

After thinking about it, I think a much easier and better way to accomplish this (assuming you want to install on multiple machines, or if you have to reinstall 9.2), is to simply download all the updates individually to a directory like /home/user/92update, and add that directory as an rpm source with MCC. Then you could just cd to that directory, and do:

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

which installs all the updates. Then, you would have an archive of the 9.2 updates, which could be burned to a cd if you needed them for installs on other machines.

This seems much easier than trying to modify the original 9.2 iso files.

Won't help if you have an LG CD-ROM. They should send everyone who purchased retail packages updated copies of the first three CDs. I bought the powerpack and despite selecting everything during setup have never had to use the other four disks.
