Just a quick query for you. I've installed Mandriva 2006 on an old PC I intend to give to my parents to get them online - more of a Slacker myself, but I thought I'd better give them something a little more immediately useable.

The rig in question has two hard drives, a 20Gb and a 40Gb. I was going to use the smaller drive for / and swap, and the larger for /home, but wasn't given (or couldn't see!) the option to set the drives up that way during the install.

Is it a trivial matter to mount the second drive as /home now, or should I start from scratch before I start tweaking the system too heavily?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

use qtparted or gparted-- or even cfdisk (which is more powerful & dangerious-- but will 'make' things work when others fail).

reboot after each update of the partitians.

you will have the choice changing only one drive at time.

you will also (possibley) need to update your /etc/fstab file to reflect your updates.

no biggy... just come back here BEFORE you want to crush your sys

Im not really sure without knowing more about your setup but i dont think that you can split up a single operating system between two seperate hardrives. Im assuming that one is configured as master and the other as slave.
In any case, either of the two drives provide plenty of room for mandriva.
I have a 120GB drive, split in half to accomodate mandriva and Windows XP AND a 20GB primary slave with fat32 fs just for storing data from both OS's.

I would just install mandriva on your 40Gig and use the 20gig for data.
