Re: Mandrake 9.2 destroys LG cd drives...( but what obout Lite-On cd drives?)

I have (or had ) a Lite-on 52X cd-rom drive and recently it has stopped working. I have also a cd-rw drive, and I have changed the jumpers/cables, but to no avail, the drive will not work under any operating system (i.e. Windows98, Windows XP, Mandrake 9.2).

I was just wondering if the issue of Mandrake 9.2 destoying cd drives has affected any Lite-On drives as well. I tried to install Mandrake using the cd-rom but it would not work, so then i had to install it using my Phillips cd-rw and it worked fine.

I have used IsoBuster program, but no cd will be detected. The cd-rom light goes on, the BIOS detects the drive, the door closes and opens, the operating system detects the drive, but when ANY cd is placed in the drive, no operating system will access it.

Is this similar to the LG problem, and has there been any reports of a Lite-On cd drive with this problem?

i have liteon drives in both my desktop and my server (DVDreader and 48x burner in desktop and a 52x CD-ROM in server) and i have had no problems with them. both machines have mandrake 9.2 on them and the desktop also has win98 and win2k and winxp. i have had my liteons since mandrake9.0 and i have had no problems, and i highly recommend them.
