I have windowsXP AND Lilo installed on the first master disk of my computer, while mandriva powerpack 2007 is on another hard drive, and unfortunately the Lilo/windows disk is slowly dying.

Soon I'll have to install a new disk in replacement, with a fresh windowsXP installation, and of course Lilo will be gone too with the former disk.

My question, though silly, is sincere : do you know if the install disk of Mandriva 2007 allows a fast and easy reinstallation of Lilo ? I never had to do that before, so I have no idea about it.

There is no use in making a backup of Lilo (even if I knew where the lilo parameters are stored), because the filesystem structure will be a bit different with the new disk (replacing a 30 GB disk composed of 1 partition with a 500 GB disk divided in 4 partitions can only bring changes ).

I don't know about Mandriva CD's but you can download for example Knoppix or some other Live-CD and boot with it and install lilo from there.

And Knoppix has a lot of tools in it so it's quite handy to have.

Just boot with your mandriva cd and when you get the prompt

select F2 (or F3) and select rescue.

There should be an option to re-install the boot loader.
<edit>Most likely you will be using grub instead of lilo as the boot loader.

It changes a bit with each version, but I think you can do this with the 2007 version cd.
