Questions on Mandrake Security Alerts

When installing I set administrator to root, but I've never received a single alert email. When I go into mandrake control center, the 'security alerts' box is unchecked. If I check it, it never saves the changes. I.e., next time I open it, the box is unchecked.

Also, when I installed from ISOs I never did a checksum. Now I'm worried that this was stupid, since there could have been trojans in the ISO. Paranoid?

I'm also getting 100s of messages a day in my logs saying
sr0 CDROM not ready.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I have the same problem. I think (though I'm a newbie and could be all wrong) that the settings created by draksec and those created by the shorewall frontend to iptables are in conflict and the latter presides. Check to see if you have shorewall installed, then goto www.shorewall.net and see how to configure that. I'm told that shorewall is an excellent frontend and I have been using that rather than draksec.

Cool security alerts

the cdrom msg's don't worry about them to much. Sounds like your sys. is trying to access the cdrom and cant i.e. after you take out a disk it's still trying to read it. i do that all the time by taking out the disk early etc.... For your security alerts. i found that i have to install sendmail and configure it to send to my local user's. pretty simple to setup send mail (for local accounts) i use webmin for that. in browser type https://localhost:10000
