putty and not binding to 127.0.0.1

Hello,

i installed freshly, mandriva 2005 LE and its great, fixed my soundcard and everything!

now im facing another irrating problem however, im fairly sure its a simple problem to fix though through maybe the iptables .. but am just needing to check here before i plow anymore time into researching it.

im trying to ssh tunnel (by opening a port) using the following at commandline (this worked fine on my 10.1 mandrake) :

putty -D 1088 -P 80 -ssh server.com

this should open a socks server on port 1088 which i can use with firefox. Howveer firefox gets a connection refused (when i socks proxy to 127.0.0.1:1088) i checked the security>firewall settings and its completely disabled.

When i come to check netstat i receive this information :

tcp 0 0 ::1:1088 :::* LISTEN

It looks like the port isnt binded to any ip! ive tried this as well:

putty -D 127.0.0.1:1088 -P 80 -ssh server.com

which is documented in the putty documentaton but it still comes up as the above in netstat!

I know it shouldnt be a problem, as other things have ports opened which are binded to 127.0.0.1

could anyone provide some information?

Thanks

Andrew
