I installed Mandriva 2006 PP on a Friends's laptop, its a Gateway solo 9550 with a Nvidia GeForce2 Go (32mb). It installed fine, but on boot it goes to a blank screen.
I think I am having 2 problems with it; I ran it with Verbose and it stopped at APM. I ran linux noapm splash=verbose and it got past the APM, but would still lock up on a blank screen.
So, I think on top of the APM, I also have a problem with the video. In the install list, there was no graphic option for Geforce2 Go, I used Geforce2 Generic and Geforce2 intergrated generic and still nothing.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Oh yeah, I changed the screen to both laptop 1024 X 768 and Generic 1024 X 768 and nothing....
Start the system, and choose to start with failsafe. After the system starts, it should bring you to a command prompt. Type
su -
then enter the root password. You should now see "#" at the beginning of the line, indicating that you are root. Type:
XFdrake --config
Change the video card. Go to the very bottom, and look for "Custom." Under custom, select "VESA." Save the setting, and restart your system, to see if the video works.
I'm having a similar problem myself. I'm also trying to install 2006 PowerPack, and I haven't used the Mandriva support because without my computer I can't get at the confirmation email >:-(
My problem seems to be more basic: after the LILO screen, I get this message:
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
Then the machine freezes solid. I've tried booting the previous kernel, with exactly the same result.
Please repost your question as a new topic. The initial question relates to video and your question, although it is with the PowerPack 2006, this is a different issue.
