Hey guys listen, I haven't messed around with DVD::Rip more than 2 times, I used Handbrake, anyway I did a new install of Mandriva and I am trying to rip my own personal DVD, but for some reason it wont find the DVD player.
I can see that the DVD path is set to /dev/dvd/, but when I trying to navigate to that path using Konqueror, I get a message that folder is not there.
With Mandriva I can see all my hard-drives and the actual DVD player under my "storagemedia" desktop icon, so when I click on the "dvd" icon it shows the path being media:/hdd.
So my question is, do I change the path from "/dev/hdd/" to "media/hdd" ?
Has anyone had any success with DVDrip on Mandriva 2008?
I've not done what you are trying to do but yesterday I needed to find the actual address of my drive. I put a written dvd in the drive and opened a window to see the dvd contents. At the top of the window it shows the address. Seems you need to enter the actual address into DVD::Rip so I hope this helps.
Mine shows "system:/media/hdc" and that's what I needed for a command line that I was using. I just now tried clicking on the 'up' arrow, and I see the various drives. I right-clicked on the dvd-drive and selected properties and that gave me 'location' and 'mounted on' addresses: are these any good? I am just clutching at straws...
I have tried everything I could think of and I get this message:
Job 'Determine number of titles' failed with error message:
Command exits with failure code:
Command: execflow tcprobe -H 10 -i media\:\/hdd\/VIDEO_TS && echo EXECFLOW_OK
Output: (ioaux.c) invalid filename or host "media:/hdd/VIDEO_TS"
I can't figure it out.

Mandriva is telling you that your DVD device is connected at hdd, and that it is mounted under the /media directory. dev/dvd is the default entry for DVD::rip so /dev/hdd should work. If it does not, you can find the dvd device linked to your DVD drive. Open Konqueror (the HOME icon). Navigate to the /dev directory (dvd is not a directory). Find the dvd node linked to hdd (You may have to resize the Name list so you can see the Link list at the right of the main pane). On my system, the dvd and dvd0 nodes are linked to hdc. The dvd1 node is linked to hdd. The one you want is the dvd node (dvd, dvd0, dvd1, etc.) that is linked to hdd on your system. If it is dvd1 use /dev/dvd1 as the path in DVD::rip, if it is dvd2 use /dev/dvd2, etc.
