Problems Installing Mandriva-Linux-Powerpack-2006-DVD.i586
 

I have tried to install Mandriva-Linux-Powerpack-2006-DVD.i586.iso and it seems to stay on 7 minutes for an enternity. It does not appear to be locked up, as the graphics change, but when 7 minutes becomes over an 1 hour, then something does not smell right.

Since this is my first install of the particular DVD Powerback, can anyone enlighten me as to what or how long I should expect for this system to install from a DVD.

I am running an AMD Athlon XP 1400 768RAM 40GB HDD.

dolphans, when you burn the DVD did u click verify? also did you run a checksum on it"? sounds like its either #1. Bad download or #2. Bad Burn, try to burn again and this time click verify to make sure its all good, if it still doesn'twork, you may have a bad download. Make sure you unplug all your usb things, like digital cammera, thumb drive, itunes, somtimes that will cause some stalls.

I've installed Mandriva 2006 Powerpack from a dvdr several times, trying other distro's then going back to Mandriva, it takes about 20 mins.

The green md5 sum lights up green and says OK. 17142f03acb89e380fc001c634fb748e Mandriva-Linux-Powerpack-2006-DVD.i586.iso, so I am not sure if that gives you enough information, size of ISO is 4.3 GB (4,656,648,192).

I am downloading another ISO.

Still says 7 minutes left. It's crazy.

that is odd, mine looks like the same as yours. I downloaded mine off a torrent. 4.33 GB (4,656,648,192 bytes) 17142f03acb89e380fc001c634fb748e Mandriva-Linux-Powerpack-2006-DVD.i586.iso

What type of install did you do? an upgrade or did you totally start from a new install? I did a new install, maybe thats what your problem is, if your upgrading from LE 2005

Definitely a burning error... MD5 fails me all the time, and the last time I burned Mandriva I wasted 3 DVDs before I got one to work. Open up the details on installation with the screwy disk and see where it freezes. Then, burn another DVD and install, opening the details, too. If it freezes on the same spot, you know it's probably a hard drive error or the data is corrupted at the source (the burn image you downloaded).

Mr. Coffee to further answer you question, when I click to verify in K3b as you've stated, it asks me to insert a 16X dual layer DVD in my DVD ROM burner. I used a 16X DVD and I am not sure if it is a Dual Layer. Could that be the problem?

I have tried both upgrade and New Install with same results, and I did torrent as well.

Oh yeah I am upgrading LE and not formatting. With new install I tried the same only formatting hda6.

I let it run overnight and went back and the screen was greyed out, I hit buttom to eject DVD and the graphics came back and said 7 minutes still left.

I hit cancel and rebooted and it appears to have updated.

I went ahead and back up all my files and just did a new install on both hda6 and hda8 and Mandriva_Linux Powerback 2006 DVD installed within 30 mintues or so without any problems. I can only conclude that running an upgrade off the DVD from Mandriva LE Operating system takes an extremly long time to do.

It's just easier and better to do a complete fresh new install.

No problem I appreciate your help....

New Install was the way to go, it installed really fast and without any problems, it even loaded my Nvidia drivers....
