Problem with Mandriva 2011

Last week I updated Mandriva 2011 as I have done for 7 years now without problems. Today when I booted to Mandriva a couple of days later I was directed to emergency mode and command line. As I had some important files in /home I discovered that the home directory was empty and my two user directories was missing. What has happened? It must not be so easy to hack Mandriva as I spend maximally 1 hour per week in it.

I have further investigated the problem and I found out that my two earlier user accounts were listed in /etc/passwd

Created the two missing userdirectories in /home
Changed ownership to the username and checked permissions.

But still when I boot up I still gets to emergency mode and commandline.

I had to reinstall Mandriva 2011. After the installation I updated the system. First 5 packages including urpmi and after that appeared shortly an error message. After reboot as recommended I continued to update 133 packages. After the update KDE did not work and I could not login. I had to reinstall and use an non-updated system.
