I installed Mandriva 2010 beta as a VirtualBox virtual machine. Cups 1.4.1-1 was installed but when I tried to install HPLIP for my printer, it requires cupsddk as well as some other packages. When I tried to install cupsddk, it attempts to install cupsddk 1.2.3-4 but it won't install because of a conflict between the 2 versions.
I think what Glenn was trying to hint at was that the VM provides the hardware interface between the printer device and the virtual OS, so you probably should not even install hplip to the VM and just use the VM's drivers. Your virtualized OS should see the VM's representation for your printer, not the printer itself.
I am now trying to install HPLIP on the release version of Mandriva 2010 on physical hardware & am have the same problem. When I update my machines, I usually save the files to install on other computers because I have several. At some point of running 2010 beta, I got cupsddk-1.2.3-4 & libcupsdevel-1.4.1-1. However, now when I try to install them on the release version of 2010, it complains that:
A requested package cannot be installed:
cupsddk-1.2.3-4mdv2010.0.i586 (due to conflicts with cups-1.4.1-12mdv2010.0.i586)
It appears that the version of cups & cups-common have advanced with out updating cupsddk & libcupsdevel. Any suggestions?
