Problem with Boot.iso disk ?

I want to upgrade to Mandriva 2006 from Mandrake 10.0 in my system. I read that if you have a "boot.iso" disk is a matter of following the prompts and selecting the right mirror and you are good to go. I downloaded one from this link (http://mirrors.kernel.org/mandrake/...images/boot.iso) and burned into a CD, but when I put it in my computer and reboot the system the screen came up asking me if I want to upgrade or else and I select "upgrade". When I did this the screen change and in the top of my screen a message caame out saying that my CPU could not support "Long Mode". Also says something about being 32 bits. I don't know if this is happening because of the boot. iso I got has incompatibiity issues. Does anyone know where can I find another boot.iso file?, Can anyone help me understand my problem and How to fix it? Thanks very much in advance.
This is a quote of the message:

Here is a good boot.iso image for your machine:
ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/dist...mages/boot.iso

Here is the full dvd install of 2006 on a server in your area:
ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrakel...6-DVD.i586.iso

Here is the full cd install of 2006 on a server in your area:
ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrakel...6-CD1.i586.iso
ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrakel...6-CD2.i586.iso
ftp://ftp.phys.ttu.edu/pub/mandrakel...6-CD3.i586.iso

All of the above links are for 32bit.

Thank you Lakota for your help. I was able to download Mandriva from the ftp server you told me. Everything was looking OK until the installation was finish and the system need it to restart.

When the system restart, The bootloader succesfuly shows me my dual boot systems, but when the monitor started showing all the system being initilize with the OK status. There is several things on that initialization screen that show a FAILED condition. One of those messages is this one;

Enabling swap space-------------Swapon dev/hda6/--------Failed

After all the booting finished, yhe login GUI shows up, I enter my login info but I could never see the screen change from that blue background and is frozen because I can't do anything and my desktop never appears. I think I have ATI drivers issues because I have being playing with them trying to get Mandriva to work. How can I gain access to mandriva to change my graphic drivers.

Jose

I upgrade from Mandrake 10.0 without reformating the partition. At the begining of the installation I was able to see the KDE desktop, I think because Mandriva use some Xorg drivers for the graphycal interface but I didn't like the way things were looking (eg. resolution, fonts, etc) and I tried to set a different driver from the list and the one I set-up I think is call "All in wonder Pro" from ATI and after I did that I'm not able to see anything in Mandriva. That's why I was just thinking that maybe by going back to the (boot.iso) disk I able to access the graphycal settting and change it back to the Xorg drivers instead of the ATI.

When at the login screen, hit the "ctrl alt F1" three key combo together to go to command line, log in as root, with your root password. Use the command "init 3". Now the command XFdrake will start the graphic install utility. The vesa will work for sure, you can also try out the other listed drivers while there. Be sure to use the "test" button on the utility before settling on a driver and closing the utility. When done with that, the command "startx" should get you going. Don't forget to logout as root and login as your regular user before the startx command or you will be at a red background as root in a gui.

Myself, I would not upgrade from 10.0 to 2006, pretty big jump, I would do a fresh install. That just may fix all your problems. Somebody else will have to help you with the swap failure, I've never had any problems there so have no idea.

I try your suggestions Lakota but I get an error when I do "INIT 3". The error says;

probin IPMI (ipmi_si_drv)-----------------[Failed]

I was thinking that you are right about doing a clean install. I was just curious in How can I do this?. I mean, How can I format the linux partition or erase everything and use the "boot.iso" disk to install Mandriva from scratch.

Hi my friends! I think that It was necessary format the partition and do a new install without any errors. Look put the correct Xorg drive that you have. Do not change. Mandriva's install is very easy. If anyone can help our friend to resolve this problem It will be good. Many people can help you my friend and many people will help you. Good luck! Untill soon!

Hi my friend! You can istall Mandriva 2006 using a CPU 32 bit or using a CPU 64 bit. When I saw your first scrap I saw this: Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32 bit distribution; I think that you have a Mandriva that only works with CPU 64 bit. Take the Mandriva that works with CPU 32 bits. My Mandriva works with CPU 32 bits. My CPU is: Sempron 2.4; Try to do this. Go to this web site:www.distrowatch.com; Good luck! Untill soon!

Here is a complete walk through of installing Mandriva 2006, (you can do your reformatting during the installation):
http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/i...2006.html#hard

The links that Linceth gave you are good, exact same downloads I listed above, just on a different server. I simply picked a server that is in your State with the expectation that you should get a very fast connection. Hope this helps.

I always choose "custom disk partitioning" rather than "use existing partitions", but if you have your partitions already made and just want them formatted you can choose "use existing partitions" as they did in the link above.

Hi Lakota,

Thank you for the link you provide, what an excellent resource. Tonight, when I get home from work I'm going to try again the same way you told me but I have a small question. Looking at the instructions, I notice the screen that shows the different partitions on the computer where Mandriva is going to be install. I believe Mandriva will show me the linux partitions and the windows partition, Am I correct in assuming this?. If so, Do I have to select all the linux partitions in order for them to be re-format or just look for the root partition and usually this partition is ext 3
