problem with audio on mandrake 9.1
Hi,
I've installed a mandrake 9.1, and I have a problem with audio; I've an integrated audio device (Via VT8233/... AC 97); now, when Linux start, I read between the booting operations, that it is loading the ALSA driver 8.09 for VIA82XX; but when the grafic server starts, and I try to listen an MP3 or audio CD, audio doesn't start; I have also used Kmix and aumix, to grow up the volume; but nothing; I've also downloaded linux driver from the VIA site, www.viaarena.com; but when I try to install this system returns this message: "All already installed". I remember that, when I had installed Mandrake 10 community the audio device work correctly, without install new driver; ther was only a problem of volume level (the max volume level I can reach is half of that I can reach with Windows). what can I do? Thank you in advance, and excuse me for my english. |
Nobody can help me?

did you try the command "alsamixer"?
did you try to change the drivers/settings in Configure you computer/hardware/sounds |
The kernels in the 9.x series had poor support for on-board audio devices.
You may want to try to upgrade to one of the newer kernels. |
